refreshed, encouraged, & enlightened

For some reason, don't really know why, I thought Bolivian women dealt with different life problems than I did. But I was enlightened about two weeks ago when I got my hair permed.

One Friday I went and got a hair cut. The conversation with my stylist was just chit chat but for me it was fun because I could chit chat in Spanish. The following Tuesday, I went and got a perm at the same place. A different gal(I'll call her C) did my hair (she did an awesome job) and since a perm takes so long we had plenty of time to talk.

We discussed our kids, work, husbands, and life in general. I found out that C also has 3 children, been married for 9 years (same as us), is the same age as me, loves working at the hair salon, and is living here in Cochabamba away from her family. I asked her what it was like living away from family, "Difficult I don't have the same people to rely on. Its been hard finding someone to take care of my kids." "What about you? Do you have friends yet?" she asked. "After two years I finally feel like we have people we can call whenever and also to watch our kids. Its been a long process." We looked at each other in the mirror and smiled. "I completely understand." she said. As we continued to talk it dawned on me that we were relating in a unique way because our lives were so similar. I have not had a deep conversation like this with another Bolivian before (mainly because of language). Silently, I thanked God for the opportunity to share lives with this young woman.

So not only did I leave the salon with great looking hair, but I left refreshed, encouraged, and enlightened. Many women all over are dealing with similar life circumstances... the location is just different. As I walked out of the salon I prayed...

Lord, I thank you so much for the opportunity to share lives with C. Thank you so much for helping my Spanish flow during the conversation. I pray Lord that you would grip her heart and that when I go back for a hair cut, she is there, so I can talk with her more. Thank you for that encounter. Amen.

okay, i just commented and it didn't take, so let's try again. I really enjoyed your thoughts this morning! I so often think that my situation is completely unique to me, but in truth there are women all of the globe dealing with the same issues. It is a comfort when I take the time to remember it. Also, great new picture! It looks great!
